Automatically forward receipts to Finally

Written by Mitchell Fratrik

Overview

Finally automatically matches receipts sent to [email protected] with your transactions.

To save time, you can create email rules that automatically forward receipt emails to Finally, so you don’t have to send them manually.

Option 1: Automatically forward receipts from Gmail

Use Gmail filters to automatically forward receipt emails to Finally.

Step 1 — Add Finally as a forwarding address

Add [email protected] as a forwarding address in Gmail.

Step 2 — Create a receipt filter

  1. Open an example receipt email.

  2. Click the three-dot menu in Gmail.

  3. Select Filter messages like these.

Adjust the filter if needed to capture receipt emails.

Step 3 — Forward matching emails

When configuring the filter:

  1. Select Forward it to.

  2. Save the filter.

  3. Done

Receipt emails that match the filter will now be automatically forwarded and matched with your Finally transactions.

Option 2: Use a centralized receipts email alias

Some companies prefer using a shared email address for receipts, such as:

Finally supports automatically forwarding receipts from these aliases.

Step 1 — Create the email alias

Create a shared alias like:

This is typically done by your IT administrator.

Step 2 — Use the alias for vendor receipts

Set this alias as the billing email address for vendors you pay through Finally.

Step 3 — Add the alias to your Finally profile

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Add the alias under Receipt forwarding

⚠️ Required for external emails:
If this alias (or any forwarding email) is not added here, receipts forwarded from it will not attach to transactions.

Step 4 — Contact Finally Support

Contact Finally Support to enable company-wide receipt matching.

By default, receipts are matched only with the transactions of the user who added the email. Support can enable matching across the entire company.

Step 5 — Set up forwarding

Create a rule in your email system to forward all receipts from the alias to:

You can follow the Gmail filter steps in Option 1.

Done

Once configured:

  • Receipts are automatically forwarded to Finally

  • Finally automatically matches them to transactions

  • You receive confirmation when a match is found

If a receipt doesn’t match your transaction, Finally will also search transactions across your company for a match.

💡 Tip: Automatic receipt forwarding helps keep transactions compliant and reduces the need for manual receipt uploads.
